How to apply your Fascination Advantage

In a distracted and competitive world, you must captivate your audience’s attention. Every time you write an email, leave a voicemail, or speak up in a meeting or dinner party, you compete with a thousand distractions. If you don’t make it easy for people to understand what you’re offering, they’re off to the next thing.

Unlocking your Fascination Advantage® is the first step to discovering how to stand out in a crowded marketplace.  Next you need to apply the information in your profile to improve your ability to be noticed and memorable.  Here are 5 of the easiest ways you can apply your Fascination Advantage right away to improve your relationships and become more successful.

1: Create your Anthem

Your Anthem is a short phrase describing how you are different and what you do best. Your Anthem tells other people how you are most likely to be of use. It’s like a tagline for your personality. It culls just one or two adjectives from your top two Advantages, and it shows people why it matters that you are energizing, or observant, or strategic, or irreverent.

2: Update your profiles (all of them)

Give other people a consistent view of who you are, at your best. Use the adjectives and phrases from your Fascinate Profile to describe yourself in your LinkedIn summary. Add your Anthem to your Twitter bio. Make sure that other people understand how you are best suited to help them relieve a pain point, or overcome a challenge.

3: Stand out to get hired and promoted

Use the same adjectives and phrases from your Fascinate Profile to give your resume a facelift. Weave your Anthem into your cover letter: tell a story about how your Anthem helped you beat the odds, or solve an “unsolvable” problem.

4: Don’t become a commodity

Whatever you do, never compete on the basis of price. Leverage your Advantages in negotiations. Your Advantages are what make you different from all the other choices. In certain situations, they position you as the best option. Identify these situations, and then seek them out.

5: Avoid tasks that do not showcase your Advantages

Learn to recognize when you are not seen at your best. This is your “Dormant” Advantage, and it’s included in your Fascinate Profile (page 11). Outsource tasks that require this Advantage, or find a way to get extra support so that you can complete them more effectively.
