How to Make a Valuable First Impression

Have you ever experienced love at first sight?

You were enamored. You were captivated.  You hung on every word, and everything about him or her was wonderful.

Everyone who came before and anyone to come after was irrelevant. The only people that mattered in that moment were you and that other person.

This is fascination at its purest state. When you are able to fascinate others, barriers drop. When you fell in love for the first time, you couldn’t think about loving anyone else. When you captivate someone like this, they are more likely to believe you, trust you, and take action on what you say.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could make others fall in love with us like this all the time? An instantaneous connection that lasts for days, months, even years?

Each time you walk into a room you exude a certain impression. This simple first impression forms the basis of people’s perception of you.

How can you use your primary Trigger to make a more valuable impression when you meet someone new?

Hi Shannon,    Great question. The Maestro’s Personality Brand is defined by confidence.     You are naturally independent. You tend to believe (often rightly so) that you can simply do things better yourself. Sound familiar? If so, you might find yourself stepping in to take over.     If others find this abrasive, it can slow your goals if they feel that they can’t contribute enough. Coach your team members to improve their own performance. Allow them to learn by making their own mistakes. You’ll progress further if you can help your team to develop their skills.     It can be hard to push forward against opposition. But just remember that as The Maestro, you have the Type-A determination necessary to push through tough challenges.

Sally-  Power and Prestige- The Maestro that’s me. Yes, I am ambious, focused, and hold myself to a higher standard. I am harder on myself than anyone could be. I am trying to move up a level in my career and seem to be struggling to get there. How fustrated am I since this is such a large part of who I am! I have been told that I am abravise. How do I work this to me advantage? Being a women in a leadership role when most of the time you are surrounded by men is hard enough.

Larry,    It’s great that you are embracing your primary and secondary Triggers. You aren’t afraid to be yourself. It can feel like a bummer when we don’t get the reactions we expect but remember this simple rule: if you try to appeal to everyone, you’ll appeal to no one. Being bold and asking the hard questions is the way you fascinate and it will ultimately help you find the right fit for your communication style.     But keep in mind that we work best when we balance our Triggers. For certain high stress scenarios, I’d suggest tapping into your Mystique and getting a feel for the other person before you hit them with Rebellion. Playing your cards closer to the chest can help you decide what should and shouldn’t be said, allowing you to tailor your message.
