How do you fascinate? The Innovation personality thinks creatively.

Innovation personalities are unconventional thinkers who can generate ideas that earn attention. By strategically applying their talent for creativity, they quickly solve problems with fresh and inventive solutions. There are seven different ways to communicate.

Innovation personalities speak the language of CREATIVITY.

They invent creative solutions.

They’re admired for their independence, vision, and irreverence.

They aim to break the mold.

When they’re on top of their game, they are often described as:

  • Creative
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Visionary

They don’t like to tweak existing ideas. They prefer to reimagine something from the ground up.

They get a little impatient when they have to follow routines. They make the mundane feel like an adventure.

Who communicates with Innovation? A few examples:

  • The web designer who is constantly exploring new software and platforms.
  • The chef who dreams up a new menu each week, using fanciful ingredients.
  • The chiropractor who is not afraid to integrate a revolutionary new treatment.

A few fascinating facts about Innovation in the workplace:

  • Innovation is a competitive edge for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and commoditized categories (such as insurance and mortgage companies).
  • Millennials tend to score lower in Innovation than their older counterparts.

If you use Innovation, you don’t have to CHANGE who you are in order to grow your business or enrich your life. In fact, quite the opposite. You have to become MORE of who you already are.

You definitely put a positive spin on a personality that can be stressful for myself and others at times. Where would I be had I only watched this video 10 years ago? Well there is still time to use these perks to my advantage . . . Thank you.

Spot on Sally! Usually get frustrated in adhoc committees where people want the “same ole same ole” and go for the low hanging fruit in decision making. Go for Gold/Broke or go home I want to say at such moments

I always wondered why I had to do everything differently, and kept saying things like “Well what happens if I do it this way instead…?” Now I know!

Describes me to a tee and why I had to quit my day job to work for myself. Passion is my primary and Innovation is my secondary two ingredients for an entrepreneur!

Exactly! It is so frustrating when others just want to tweak something mediocre they’ve been doing for years instead of coming up with a new, inventive product or program. I love coming up with new ideas!

Thank you Sally! Jeffrey Shaw had me take the Fascination Advantage, when coaching with him, loved it. Confirmed my thoughts. I thrive when given space and a freehand to come up with ideas because it comes from a deeper guided space, more than the mind, and can never be a demand of the moment.
My Primary is Innovation, and secondary is Passion.
I know I have to stay away from Power, because it just drains my energy.

I love this concept. I’m just discovering your work now. I do have a question though. The Innovation post mentions “you bring irreverence to straightforward messages”. Reverence is respect, so irreverence would be a lack of respect. So what I’m hearing from this is “I bring lack of respect to straightforward messages”. However, if we are bringing lack of respect to straightforward messages what exactly are we creating? There is value in straightforward. One can more powerfully challenge the status quo if one is straightforward. Straight forward means “uncomplicated and easy to do or understand”. People reject things they don’t understand, it causes dissonance, and resistance. So my question is, what’s the value in creating a lack of respect for “uncomplicated” or “understandable” messages? Wouldn’t it be more transformative if the message is respected and easily understood? You can reach people, create change, and make an impact if people can understand the message. I’m super curious about your take on this, and looking forward to a greater understanding!!

Hi Christi! Thank you for this thoughtful comment. You are correct that the terms “irreverence” and “straightforward” could be confusing. In this instance we are suggesting the playful questioning that Innovation personalities bring to the sometimes obvious answers. And sometimes that can be viewed as disrespectful. We are precisely trying to get at the ways people who lead with Innovation are admired for challenging the status quo. And you are absolutely correct that clarity in messaging can be the best way to communicate these questions.

We’d love to learn about your Fascination Advantage, Christi. Do you lead with Innovation? If so it would be interesting to learn what your secondary Advantage is. Thanks for making us think a little more about this language!
