Can you have too much of a good thing?
If all the members of your group share a very high concentration of one Primary Advantage, problems can arise.
For example, a team with:
- too much Passion can become unstable or moody
- too much Innovation and your group may get stuck in an eternal brainstorming loop
- too much Power and detailed projects won’t get implemented
The first step to overcoming these possible pitfalls is to identify how each member communicates. The Fascinate® system will help you identify each team member’s primary and secondary Advantages. If your team shares too many of the same primary Advantages, differences in secondary Advantages may help you overcome problems.
For example, if you have an abundance of primary Passion on your team and are working on a project with critical deadlines, seek out team participation from members with secondary Alert to stay focused on the deliverables.
In my research, I learned that 50% of the difference between low and high-performing teams is the quality of communication.
Think about the members of your team, or even your family or friends.
- What is each person’s most valuable quality?
- What types of activities or conversations allows them to shine?
- In what ways do they communicate authentically, bringing out the best of who they are?
All the members of your team communicate in ways that are completely unique to them.
Once each person in your group’s unique communication styles have been identified, they need to be encouraged to use them in order to feel confident and energized. Teams that work well together are teams that understand and support each other.
When you understand the communication patterns and tendencies of your group’s members, you will cut through conflict and encourage healthy relationships.
Bottom line…effective teams are not a random coincidence. In fact, the success of a team is pretty predictable.Once you have measured your group’s Advantages by having them take the Fascinate® test, take a look at everyone’s results.
